Elgon Volcano is where Mount Elgon National Park derives its name from. This park is where one of the world’s oldest and extinct volcanoes –Mount Elgon is found. At the slopes of Elgon Mountain, there are several small antelope families, elephants, primates, and over 300 bird species which include the lammergeyer and sunbirds.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala-Mbale
Get to meet your safari leader in Uganda and start your journey along Kampala-Jinja-Mbale route. Today’s journey includes a stopover at Ssezibwa waterfalls and after, you will proceed on a scenic drive through Mabira Forest, Jinja and do not miss the stunning views of the Source of the Nile as you cross the new bridge. Continue up to Mbale where you will have a night stay in one of the best hotels in Mbale city preferably Mbale Resort Hotel/
Day 2: Depart from Budadiri for Sasa Camp, 2900m
Set off from Budadiri 1250m just next to Mbale city and gate of Mount Elgon National Park. Find the guides and porters, get briefed then with your gear and food, proceed on a rewarding walk up to the elevation of 2900m. Today’s trek will cover between 7 and 8 hours.
Day 3: To Mude Camp (3500m)
Leave Sasa Camp after a cup of tea or coffee and head off to Mude cave via a lush forest. This will cover 4 to 5 hours to get to the camp for relaxation and a leisurely dinner.
Day 4: Conquer Wagagai peak & walk back to Mude
This day is dedicated for you to reach the highest peak of Mount Elgon 4321m navigating via the moorland zone. Upon getting at Wagagai peak, take pictures and after, begin returning to Mude campsite.
Day 5: Descend up to Budadiri, Sipi Falls
Start your day trek back to Budadiri after having a delicious breakfast. From Budadiri, proceed to the spectacular Sipi Falls –series of 3 scenic waterfalls located along the Northwestern slopes of Mount Elgon. Relax and retire for the night at Lacam Lodge/Sipi Lodge.
Day 6: Sipi to Kampala
Go hiking to the triple Sipi falls with an experienced guide. These stunning waterfalls lie at varying elevations of 100m, 65 and 85m. After, get back and you will return to Kampala or Entebbe and this marks the end of 6 days safari to Mount Elgon and Sipi Falls.
