Kidepo is Uganda’s 3rd largest park extending up to 1442 sq.km. The park supports varied wildlife species including elands, spotted hyenas, zebras, elephants, bush pigs, lions, oribis, side-backed jackals, buffaloes, Jackson’s hartebeest, Rothschild giraffes, dik-dik, cheetahs, caracals, aardwolf and reedbucks, etc. 

Over 475 species of birds also call this park home and include Kori bustard, ostriches, Abyssinian ground hornbills, red-throated bee-eaters, secretary bird, verreaux’s eagle, pygmy falcons, Egyptian vultures and a lot more.

Detailed Itinerary 

Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Kidepo home to cheetahs

Meet your Uganda driver guide at the hotel for briefing and later, set off to the Eastern side of the country for about 10-12 hours. Take the Kampala-Gulu route and expect a lot en-route including beautiful views of the homesteads, drive across some rivers and upon arrival at Gulu city, settle for a delicious lunch. From Gulu, continue to Kidepo Valley National Park in North-eastern Uganda.

Day 2: Game drive through Narus Valley 

Have breakfast at your safari lodge or camp and after, begin your day game viewing in the morning. Catch up with Kidepo Valley National Park’s abundant wildlife, especially early risers. Through the Narus Valley, keep eyes on varied animals including lions, buffaloes, cheetahs, lesser & greater Kudus, caracals, mountain reedbucks, aardwolf, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras and plenty of bird species. Today’s long-day game viewing includes a picnic lunch break in the wilderness of Kidepo Valley National Park savanna grassland.

Day 3: Explore the Kidepo Valley game 

Leave your safari camp for another long day game search through Narus then proceed to Kidepo Valley to explore more of Kidepo’s wonders including the Kanangorok hot springs. Today, you will also have a chance to spot ostriches and many other mammal species.

Day 4: Cultural encounters (IK and Karamojong)

After breakfast, you will embark on a guided community walk and first, you will pay a visit to the IK people on Mount Morungole. This involves hiking to the top about 2750m –the highest point of Kidepo NP. Find the IK people at the summit and spend good time exploring more about their traditions, cultures and then return to the lodge. Late in the afternoon, walk to the nearby Karamojong village for yet another thrilling African cultural experience with the Karamojong people, learn how they have sustained their nomadic way of life, get entertained by the unique dances and music performances.

Day 5: Return from Kidepo to Kampala capital

Start your day with a leisurely breakfast and after, you will be picked up by your safari leader in Uganda. Drive back to Kampala or Entebbe and today marks the end of this special wildlife safari -5 day trip.
